CSULB'S KBeach radio to broadcast to FM/HD radio

Google Pictures
KBeach radio, the online radio station for Cal State Long Beach will be bradcasting to FM/HD radio by the end of the Spring 2012 semester, that will be heard by the Los Angeles and Orange County area.

This new bradcasting channel will increase viewership and start making KBeach Radio a popular radio station for music. It will be easier and more widely listened to in the car instead of only listening to online.

The Daily 49er, the university's widely popular newspaper featured this announcement which also included KBeach's Student Manager, Dominic Paramo and his view on it. “Right now, being only an Internet station, we can only reach those people that actively tune in to the online station and search for us,” Paramo said.“But once we have HD 3, it will make it more accessible in all the newer cars for anyone who is maybe interested in listening,” he continued. “They can just tune right in.”

Famela Phal a former features spokesperson for the radio that I used to team up with has had positive reactions to this new broadcasting channel. "I think it's going to be a difficult change but on the bright side it will be a great one. Getting into public radio will give the listeners entertainment and news updates wherever you are."

Club Italia Presents: Olive Oil Tasting Presentation

Olive Oil Presentation and Tasting by Elisabeth Fiorello-Sievers
  Picture retrieved from Vincenzo
      and Elizabeth: Facebook Event

Club Italia at Cal State University Long Beach will be highlighting the history of Olive Oil as well as a special tasting. This is going to be an interesting and fun event! The presentation will be on Monday, April 23, 2012 in the AS Building, Room 384, next to the Beach Hut at 12:30-1:30 p.m. I recommend coming out to this event to meet new people, socialize, and taste some Olive Oil.

Elizabeth Fiorello-Sievers, graduate with Italian Studies and French from Cal State Long Beach, and former Club Italia member, will be presenting fun facts about Olive Oil because her family runs an Olive Oil business in Napa Valley.

President of Club Italia, Vincenzo Amalfitano, insists that people should attend this event because you will learn something new and how Olive Oil plays a huge role in the Mediterranean and Italian diet.

"You may even find out facts you didn't know before and help yourself understand the process of how the olives are grown, picked, pressed, bottled, and sold for retail," Vincenzo says.

After attending this event, you will want to be a part of this campus organization. Even if you are not Italian, this club always has fun, informative, and social gathering events that will make your college experience a whole lot better. It is also free to join.

"People should join this club because it is one of the most active clubs on campus. Not only do we engage in academic lectures and events in the community, we also socialize around campus and in Belmont Shore, so its everything you want from a campus club," Vincenzo says .

Don't forget to add this to your calendar and be sure to come out and support Club Italia at CSULB!

Be sure to "like" Club Italia on Facebook for more information on upcoming events.

The new Eco-Friendly Fashion Show

Coming Earth Week 2012 at CSULB
Are you excited yet? Here is something similar to what YOU could
create and see on the runway

https://sites.google.com/site/clubesp/

Have you ever seen environmental science students collaborate with fashion students for a fashion show? Never! Well you have the chance to be a part of this amazing event during Earth Week in April and have the chance to make your voice heard and gain leadership skills by creating this awesome event.

The first ever Eco-friendly fashion show is being created by the  CSULB's Environmental Science and Policy club and partnering with Fashion Merchandising and Design students. The show will be featured during CSULB's Earth Week  2012 during April 23-28 as one of the big events of the week.

President of the Environmental Science and Policy Club, Brianna R. Pagan, is looking for volunteers to be a part of this great  networking opportunity. It is an amazing chance to help create a fashion show from scratch and will look great on a resume. This is such an awesome experience, I decided to join myself.

"Students will be working on creating a fashion show with two environmentally inspired scenes. Scene one will consist of practical "upcycled" clothing. Designers are expected to create pieces from scraps, local made material or reconstruct already made clothing (preferably bought at a local thrift store). Scene two will be more unpractical and focus on making clothing from unconventional items such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and other recyclables or what other people see as "trash". The theme for scene 2 will be about the "trash island" located in the Pacific Ocean," said Project Coordinator and President of the Environmental Science and Policy Club, Brianna R. Pagan.

She also said that, "You do not have to be an Environmental Science student to learn how to reduce your carbon footprint. Not very many people attribute green efforts to the fashion scene, however there are huge efforts being put on by the fashion industry to create more eco-friendly clothes that appeal to the public. The actual scenes in the show serve to inspire creativity. I want students to see that what some see as trash, can be made into an art form."

Campus Couture Model Call

Every year, the fashion department at California State University Long Beach has an annual fashion show called “Campus Couture,” that is run by five students who are majoring in fashion merchandising and design.  The fashion show is on May 10, 2012 in the John Carpenter Theater on campus, and tickets are $20. Coordinators are currently looking for models to strut their stuff at the 24th Annual Campus Couture fashion show.

Guys and girls can tryout to be a model for the event, and there are still two dates left to tryout and be a part of this fun and entertaining event on campus.

The last two tryout dates will take place at Cal State Long Beach, in the University Student Union Ballrooms on March 20 and April 23, between 5-8 p.m.

“Models will be wearing garments that are made by senior, junior and sophomore designers. Anyone can tryout to be a model and girls must bring heels and be ready to do a walk for us,” said Design Liaison Coordinator, Michelle Rahim.

I encourage everyone to attend the model call because it is a great experience and you get to meet new people. When do you ever get the chance to walk in a fashion show!

“The models are apart of one of CSULBs biggest events and I encourage everyone to come out and see the show this year. We are very proud of it, and we have an incredibly talented senior design class with all kinds of new and innovative collections. Campus Couture started out as a small fashion show in the USU ballrooms and has now grown into a huge production. I am very proud to be apart of the team and also very proud of all the other students who participate in the event,” said Michelle.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars and if you have any questions please e-mail Design Liaison Coordinator, Michelle Rahim, at michelle.campuscouture@gmail.com.
